Thank you to Emily @ Ecowild for teaching me to make Hazel hurdles. I will be using this ancient skill to make low fences around my flower beds. This is an amazing activity to do in the winter to prepare for summer. Material can be sensitively cut from the base of the trees which promotes new growth for the following year. #hazelhurdles #gardenfencing #sustainablegardening

Planting Anemone de Caen today. In pots due to giving them protection over winter. Beautiful cut flowers for arrangements. Planted in a mixture of peat free multipurpose compost and sharp sand for drainage. First picture shows Nerine bowdenii grown this year in the sun and second shows Nerines grown in the shade. It’s interesting how shaded ones stems have elongated to reach the light (which is what I want for cutting). Even though they are a bulb recommended for full sun I will continue to grow them in the shade for this reason! Check out the ruler for scale.
