Environment

Allowing nature in Downend to thrive, not just survive.

I care deeply about the environment and that is why I do the following to ensure the care of my locally grown sustainable flowers from Downend, Bristol:

  • Always use Peat free compost for potting, homemade compost and Manure from a local farm to mulch my beds.

  • Use natural products to feed my plants such as Seaweed and Comfrey tea.

  • I use no pesticides. Living on the land that I am growing on allows me to be amonst my plants to physically remove pests.

  • Hand removal of Slug and Snail eggs which then get placed on the bird table for the birds.

  • I feed our local birds so that they regularly visit my patch to graze on the aphids, caterpillars and snails.

  • I have a pond, with frogs, to feed on the slugs. The pond also attracts Bees, Wasps and other flying insects for pollination.

  • I use the 'no dig' method (Charles Dowding) which preserves the fungi and pathogens in our local soil.

  • Buying my flowers is better for the environment because they are grown locally and have a low carbon footprint.

  • I wrap the flowers in paper and use natural materials to tie them.

  • When buying anything new I buy recycled/recyclable but would rather use and reuse my existing materials.

  • For all of these reasons it is vital that you CHOOSE ME because - I am the best person for the job and you will be being environmentally responsible.
